I’m sharif pendleton. This is my blog. Simply put, it is about me, the things I observe and the stuff I make.

Since I graduated from Philadelphia’s University of the Arts in 2006, I’ve had my share of jobs and adventures. I’ve worked as everything from an instructor at a small arts college to the multimedia specialist at a gigantic international law firm. Through it all, what I have always loved to do most is design and create installations and products that are cool, beautiful and provocative.

I have a lot of respect for artists who have mastered their craft and have been practicing their craft for many years.
I, however, have never been able to get comfortable with just one method, style or medium; which can be a real problem when you try to explain to someone what it is that you do. My solution is to experiment – constantly. I get really excited about working with different mediums and materials. When I find something that excites me, I work with it as much as possible.

Working in this way has meant that my art takes many different shapes, sizes and forms. Most importantly, though, it means that I never stop learning or losing the fun of experimentation which is what I think makes for exciting design and products.

About Master of None
MoN is a company that strives to create unique, cool and beautiful products by remembering that greatness can come from experimentation and never being too comfortable with just one medium or method of doing something. It is my hope that Masters of None will blossom into a community of multidisciplinary artists from diverse backgrounds who come together to create the cool, the beautiful and the provocative things that consumers love.

Masters of None was first dreamed up by a friend and myself a couple years ago. Since then, it has evolved tremendously. I took the initial inspiration and crafted a business plan based on the refined idea. Earlier this year I entered the Be Your Own Boss Bowl, a business plan writing competition sponsored by Temple University and Microsoft, and my business plan was named a semi-finalist and then a finalist. It was 1 of 10 finalists out of over 112 entries! I didn’t win the competition but having made it so far definitely served as momentum to try and make the idea come to life.
